Mayibuyi Youth Organisation Honoured by Yale University and U.S. Consulate Visit
Phoenix, Durban — The Mayibuyi Youth Organisation, a community-based youth development organisation based in Phoenix, Durban, South Africa, was honoured by the official visit of Ms. Amaeka Affiong, representative of Yale University, U.S.A., in the company of Mrs. Susan Knowles from the United States of America Consul General Office, on 01 September 2026.
The high-profile delegation visited the offices of the Mayibuyi Youth Organisation, where they were warmly welcomed by the organisation’s leadership, volunteers, and students.
Engagement with Youth and DUT Students
During their visit, Ms. Affiong and Mrs. Knowles met with and addressed students from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) and volunteers of the Mayibuyi Youth Organisation regarding available opportunities at Yale University and the U.S. Embassy.
The session focused on:
- Global education opportunities and international academic pathways.
- Youth leadership and skills development.
- Exchange programmes designed for South African youth.
DUT students and Mayibuyi volunteers actively engaged the guests with questions about scholarships, career guidance, and U.S. study opportunities.
Mayibuyi Shares Its Vision and Mission
Mr. Siviwe Benya, Founder and Chairperson of Mayibuyi Youth Organisation, provided a background on the founding of the organisation, alongside its goals, vision, and mission within the Province of KwaZulu-Natal. He highlighted the role Mayibuyi plays in building responsible citizens across South Africa through education, mentorship, and addressing social challenges faced by youth and broader communities.
Mr. Benya specifically detailed Mayibuyi’s work in crime prevention, peace-building, skills development, career guidance, and community service across Phoenix, Umlazi, and other parts of KZN.
U.S. Delegation Expresses Gratitude
In response, Mrs. Susan Knowles (U.S. Consul General Office) and Ms. Amaeka Affiong (Yale University) expressed their sincere gratitude to the Mayibuyi Youth Organisation for the warm welcome and praised the exceptional work done in changing lives.
